Hatfield and McCoy Christmas Disaster Dinner Feud

By Lynne Westbrook, Publisher Macaroni Kid Blue Ridge November 13, 2018

Well you may have heard about the Hatfields and McCoys.  In fact, the names are synonymous with feuding , family honor, justice, and revenge.  I bet, though, you have never experienced them like you will when you come out to the “Hatfield and McCoy Christmas Disaster Dinner Feud” in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.  In this show the bitter conflict between the two feuding families comes to life as "The Fight Before Christmas".

While traveling in the Smoky Mountains we made a stop for the 8 p.m. show.  They are running the show through November and December at 5 p.m., 8 p.m. (with some 2 p.m. matinees).  When you come, you better come hungry (and make reservations early as they had been sold out for three days).  The Dinner Feud includes a home-style Christmas feast that includes all-you-can-eat fried chicken, pork barbecue, an amazing creamy vegetable soup, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, bread, coleslaw and banana pudding! Wash it all down with some Southern Champagne (aka sweet tea in a mason jar) and you are all ready for the show to begin.  If you need accommodations, they also have dairy and gluten free as well as vegan options available upon request.

The fun begins with infomercials created by the locals in the Hatfield and McCoy's home town.  Kids in the audience are even invited up to the stage to perform a Christmas song for the audience and take part in the show.  Large screens help highlight parts of the show as there is so much to keep up with the feuding, clogging, singing, dancing, and this year - a pool complete with competing divers and water dogs.  Be careful if you choose to sit on the front row - it may be cloudy with a chance of rain.   There is never a dull moment as the Hatfields face off against the McCoys and then finally come back together (at least momentarily) to save their land from a scheme. Pa Hatfield closes the show with the true meaning of Christmas as they families cease their feud.  We went as a multi-generational family with my parents and children and all enjoyed the show- this is a great night out for the family.
