Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer at the Center for Puppetry Arts

A Great Annual Tradition

By Lynne Westbrook, Publisher Macaroni Kid Blue Ridge November 8, 2017

What do you and your family do to celebrate the Christmas Season?  Do you  continue traditions from your family of origin or are you creating your own?  Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and I can already anticipate the smell of cinnamon, sugar cookies, and hot cocoa in the air.  I shiver with excitement at the thought of the crisp breeze chilling my nose. We all feel the positive energy when putting up wreaths, the tree and all those little decorations (old and new).  Trying to find the whole set from Rudolph or Grandma's tree skirt- it all brings back memories and seeds for future planning.

I grew up in Georgia and there are some traditions that we have had with our children year after year. One annual tradition that my girls anticipate each year is the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Puppet Show.  We have attended most years since my girls were little and they can't make it into the season without asking when we are going.  It starts early in November and is one of the first snowflakes of the season!

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer is an annual tradition at the Center for Puppetry Arts  in Atlanta.  It  brings back memories as it is based on the classic 1964 television special.  Believe me- you feel like you have stepped back into your own childhood as this amazing puppetry show comes to life in front of you.  The show also includes an overview of how the puppets are made and come to life- presented by the puppeteers.  Kids even get to make their own version of a paper puppet - this year is the King Moonracer Lion from the Island of Misfit Toys.
