I love going to the Fox Theatre with my family. The theatre is a historical treasure. Originally intended to be home for the Atlanta Shriners organization, in 1928, this landmark was built complete with domes, minarets, large archways, gold leaf design and Spanish, Far East, and Egyption artistic and architectural themes.
Just the beauty of the theatre (with open, indoor, blue, star-lit skies) is a lure for us. However, their recent production of Riverdance made the surroundings even more magical. Imagine a warm, summer evening in Celtic surroundings with imagery and sound that take you to the edge of the forrest in ancient Ireland. The show was hypnotic with light changes, beautiful music, and the sound of tapping echoing across the theatre. This was my first time watching the show in it's entirety and I appreciated how the introduction into the ancient changed to modern day tap as urban tap took on Celtic dance in an impressive dance-off.
Broadway in Atlanta has several other anticipated shows a the Fox Theatre venue this year. Finding Neverland May 16-21st, Mama Mia June 13-18th (I can't wait for this one as an official Abba fanatic!), and An American in Paris August 15-20th. Don't miss out on these great productions at arguably one of the most elegant theatres around!
