Moana- Your Pacific Island Princess

By Lynne Westbrook December 1, 2016
I was raised in the post Snow-White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty era and before the release of The Little Mermaid.  As any little girl, I loved to listen to the songs and watch the beauty of a Disney princess come to life.  We were all mesmerized by the ball gowns, tiaras and the kiss of the prince in these amazing tales.

Now, with daughters of my own, I can enjoy the new generation of princess(es).  The new Disney Moana movie is no exception.  Travel to the Pacific Islands where the movie is rich with symbolism (the turtle brings good luck) and the beauty of the islands. Yes, there is a strong demi-god- Maui (played by The Rock), but watch this film to see where the true strength and bravery lies in the heart of a young princess.   She comes from a voyaging background, but is not allowed to go "beyond the reef".  It is her maternal grandmother who shows amazing strength, love, and intelligence in guiding her to her destiny beyond the reef.  We loved the cross generational influence and feminine strength shown in this movie.

A must see for any family- particulary if you have daughters!  Opens in theatres on Wednesday November 30th.
